BC NDP to begin leadership campaign, new leader to be elected Dec. 3
It comes after Prime Minister John Horgan announced he would not run again
The New Democratic Party of British Columbia announces that it will elect a new leader in December.
A statement released today says the campaign period will officially begin on Sunday.
The party says voting will begin in November and the results will be announced on December 3.
It comes after Premier John Horgan announced late last month that he would not seek another term in the 2024 provincial election.
Horgan said he would step down as leader in the fall, saying his second bout with cancer left him with little energy for work.
The party says it has appointed former cabinet minister Elizabeth Cull as chief electoral officer to oversee the leadership race.
He says the deadline to join as a party member to be able to vote in the leadership election is September 4.
