Construction of the new Cedar Park Public Library is expected to begin in early 2023, Abheek Sarkar of Lake Flato Architects, the project developer, said at the Cedar Park City Council meeting Oct. 13.
Located at the center of The Bell District development in Cedar Park, one of the main purposes of the new library is to be a civic gathering space, designed to encourage users of all ages to visit.
The courtyard space of the new library will be surrounded by dozens of large heritage trees and will feature a fenced youth area, gathering spaces, contemplation spaces and an outdoor fountain. Materials used on the exterior portion of the building include wood, metal panels, glazing, bluestone, limestone and glazed brick, intended for durability for years to come.
For the interior design, the developers focused on “warm, cozy and comfortable materials”, as well as exterior views and an interactive play area for youngsters, said Sophia Razzaque, architect of the Lake Flato project. Architects.
The interior of the new library will also include a reading room for story time, a low-tech crafting space and a high-tech crafting space – low-tech is practical arts and crafts, and high technology is computerized 3D printing and laser. decoupage – a classroom, a teen space, a quiet space for adults, group study rooms, a multi-purpose room and a reading room.
“It’s super exciting,” Council Member Anne Duffy said at the meeting. “It will be such an activated place. I imagine there are people who don’t even go to the library and will be there on the first day, so it’s super exciting.
The new public library will be funded by bonds approved by Cedar Park voters in 2015. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2024.
