A A Garrard County woman has been indicted by a Franklin County grand jury for allegedly scamming Frankfort residents out of thousands of dollars with her residential contracting business.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said through its investigation, it was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Maritza Caban, 41, of Lancaster, and that she was taken into custody by the department Jessamine County Sheriff.
Caban was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury for the misdemeanor of theft by unlawful taking of more than $10,000 but less than $1,000,000. According to the sheriff’s department, she is accused of planning home repair or renovation projects for potential clients, but never carrying out the work; or start projects but not finish them.
In one instance, deputies said Caban took $120,000.00 from a Franklin County resident to renovate his home, never completing the repairs/renovations. Caban would have operated in the region under the name of CTC Construction, or under his name as a contractor.

Never agree to anything less than a paper contract with handwritten and attested signatures by a third party.
In addition to the robbery, Caban is also charged with being a first-degree repeat offender and is being held without bail at the Franklin County Regional Jail.
The number of robbery victims and their total monetary losses have not yet been released.
