Jonah Williams was among the large group of Los Angeles Rams players who entered the preseason on the roster bubble. After a trio of productive games in the preseason, Sean McVay said the Rams have faith in Williams for the 2022 season.
“He did a good job. He’s really been a consistent player and he understands how we want to play up front, so that’s really positive,” McVay said. “We have good depth on the defensive line. When you look at Eric Henderson and Skyler Jones, they’ve done a great job of really being able to grow. Obviously what a great example they have to Aaron (Donald) to see what it looks like every day. But I was really happy with Jonah Williams and he’s a guy we trust a lot.

After losing Sebastian Joseph-Day in free agency, the Rams’ starting defensive front will be Aaron Donald, Greg Gaines and A’Shawn Robinson. While the starting line is a formidable unit, the depth on the defensive line is a question mark.
Despite concerns about the depth of the defensive line, McVay seems convinced that Williams can contribute as a substitute. In the three exhibition competitions Los Angeles has participated in, the third-year inside defenseman has had six tackles, one sack and one tackle for loss.
Given McVay’s glowing comments about Williams on Monday, it looks like the Weber State product will join Donald, Gaines, Robinson and Marquise Copeland on the 53-man roster to start the 2022 season.
