Lincoln teacher nominated for national award – The Interior Journal

Amy Carrier, a credit recovery teacher at Lincoln County High School, has been nominated for the 2021-2022 National LifeChanger of the Year award. Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards top K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who make a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence , positive influence and leadership.

Carrier was nominated by one of her students for the care and attention she gives to her students and the relationships she builds with them. Carrier strives to give students a chance to recover the credits they failed to earn in regular courses. She works with each student to create an individual journey to get them to the point where they can pass the course and be on the right path to graduating. Not only does she do that, but she cares about all of her students. She does this work with a level of care that makes students feel safe and welcome in her space and keeps them to high expectations.

“I’ve seen her work with many of my classmates, and I know she treats them with respect and honors them no matter what past choices we’ve made that placed us in her credit recovery class.” , said the student. She has a way of pushing students to do their best so they can get the job done. With her, I know she won’t allow me to settle for less than my best.

About LifeChanger of the Year
Each school year, LifeChanger of the Year receives hundreds of nominations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Eighteen individual LifeChanger of the Year awards will be presented during the 2021-2022 school year.
• (1) Grand Prize Winner – will receive $10,000 to share with their school/district.
• (4) Grand Prize Finalists – will receive $5,000 to share with their school/district.
• (10) LifeChanger Award Winners – will receive $3,000 to share with their school/district.
• (1) Spirit Award Winner – This award is given to the nominee whose community demonstrates the most support for their candidacy. The winner will receive $5,000 to share with their school/district.
• (1) Capstone Award Winner – This award is given to a nominee who retires at the end of the 2020-21 school year. The winner will receive $3,000 to share with their school or district.
• (1) Spotlight Award Winner – This award is given to a nominee in a specific discipline each year. For 2021-2022, the Spotlight Award will be given to a school nurse. The winner will receive $5,000 to share with their school or district.

Winners are chosen by a selection committee of past winners and education professionals and will be announced in early 2022. Nominees must be K-12 teachers or school district employees. To be considered for an award, nominees must:
• Have a positive impact in the lives of students

• Improve the atmosphere, culture and pride of their school or district

• Demonstrate exemplary leadership at the school and/or district level

• Possess a proven record of professional excellence

• Adhere to the highest moral and ethical standards
