Mid-Century Modern Homes With Pools For Sale – Chicago Magazine

Over the past month, I’ve shared properties for sale where Chicagoans typically vacation or have second homes, such as Lake Geneva or Harbor Country. Or places that feel like permanent vacations (who wouldn’t want their own private beach?). We have officially entered the summer heat wave. So, with that in mind, I’m staying on the theme of warm, sunny days by sharing five Chicago-area real estate listings with pools (including the rare indoor pool within Chicago’s city limits). And it’s not just any old house, the following properties all fall under the Mid-Century Modern label. If you’re dreaming about real estate, why not pretend to sip a cocktail poolside at a 1960s ranch?

In Chicago’s Forest Glen, not only is this nine-bedroom, four-bathroom residence a unique mid-century design, but it also has a cool feature that’s hard to find in the city: an indoor pool. If that’s not enough for you, the property also includes a sauna, a roof terrace, a greenhouse, a garage for five cars and a guest apartment. The interior has been modernized, including an updated kitchen and bathrooms. Some of the mid-century features survive in their original state, such as the cinder blocks, slate flooring, and lower-level recreation room. It last sold in July 2015 for $485,000, but is currently listed at $950,000.

This sprawling ranch built in 1950 is in the Ravinia section of Highland Park. With house prices soaring in today’s real estate market, this property has seen a nearly 50% price increase since it was sold three years ago, jumping from $485,000 to its current listing of $715,000. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home was recently gutted, giving it a bright and modern open floor plan. It has a functional kitchen, good sized bedrooms and ample parking. Although located on a busy road, the half-acre property features a beautifully landscaped backyard filled with tall, mature trees. Lots of privacy for anyone using the inground pool.

This 1960 ranch in Oswego has a lot to offer. With its gorgeous views of the Fox River and a decent price tag of $439,000, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom residence is within walking distance of downtown this growing suburb. I like the exterior details like the sloping roofline and the Eichler windows. Inside, a large bright living room and a renovated kitchen. In the backyard is a multi-level patio with an in-ground pool, hot tub and fire pit, perfect for entertaining family and friends. The vendors leave the pool equipment, patio furniture, storage sheds and pool house.

Now here is a time capsule! For anyone interested in a rehabilitation project, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch in Oak Lawn has hit the market for the first time. Although the 1,611 square foot home is badly in need of some interior updates, this is a great opportunity to make it your own. Listed at $250,000, I think the price is a pretty good deal. The master bedroom is where the garage once stood. There is enough room to get rid of the two storage sheds and build a garage for one car. The property is perfect for parties with its large outdoor terrace, inground pool with slide and pool house.
