OL 4 stars Jaydon Chatman commits to Texas

The Texas Longhorns continue to gain momentum on the recruiting track with the addition of Harker Heights interior offensive lineman Jaydon Chatman, who announced his commitment to Steve Sarkisian’s program on Sunday, becoming the fourth commitment of a massive recruiting day for the Longhorns.

Chatman picked the Longhorns from a list of options that also includes Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and LSU.

A four-star talent, Chatman has long been a priority target for offensive line coach Kyle Flood, and he returned that interest throughout the recruiting process, becoming a mainstay for the Forty Acres. More recently, Chatman spent the weekend in Austin as an official visitor and as a result, Crystal Ball projections favoring Texas came to fruition.

Chatman is ranked 191st player nationally and 9th interior offensive lineman, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Daniel Seahorn detailed what Horns get in Chatman:

Chatman is a bi-sport athlete (football and track) who won the district shot put championship this spring with a throw of 48’6.5. Chatman boasts a good size at 6’4, 300 pounds, but he’s right on that tween threshold when it comes to metrics to hold at tackle. Shows good quickness out of LOS at the snap and shows good playing strength as he is able to constantly move LOS defenders. Does a good job of bending and maintaining a low hat and pads when coming off the ball. Good tape drive blocker and does a good job of getting his hands and feet in contact with defenders to get movement. Plays with good aggression and constantly looks to finish off blocks and defenders on the grass. The works feel in space as an extractor and show a good conscience regarding assignment when tasked to do so. Has limited passing sets on tape and even though he seems to have a solid anchor, he will still need to clean up some things technically to move forward. In my opinion, Chatman has a chance to be a pretty athletic guard at the next level and if he continues to develop as a pass blocker, he has a chance to be a really good player at the next level.

Chatman becomes the 13th addition to a Texas class ranked No. 5 nationally. More so, he becomes the third member of Flood’s 2023 transport as this group begins to take shape with the three promises announced on Sunday.
