Rosewood Hotels and Resorts has announced plans to add a property in Venice to its portfolio, with an agreement to manage the city’s Hotel Bauer.

The hotel dates back to 1880 and will join the Rosewood portfolio following a renovation project which will begin in November.

The establishment, located in the San Marco district of Venice, between the Grand Canal and Piazza San Marco, will close during the works, before reopening as the Rosewood Hotel Bauer in 2025.

The renovation project will be led by Venice-based architect Alberto Torsello and interior design group BAR Studio, with “much of the hotel’s historic setting to be repaired and incorporated into the new design, including the original facade, the grand spiral staircase and many interior features that are part of the property’s rich past.

When it reopens, the hotel will offer “just over 110 rooms”, as well as a bistro-style restaurant and bar on the ground floor and a gourmet restaurant and bar with a roof terrace.

There will also be a rooftop event garden, an outdoor pool on the eighth floor, and retail space located at the rear of the building in Campo San Moisé Square.

Rosewood Hotel Bauer is actually the group’s second attempt to open a property in Venice – it was originally planned to open a hotel located in the 15th century Palazzo Dona’ Giovannelli in the Cannaregio area of the city, but this development has now transitioned to Orient Express hotels.
