Sheppard receives scholarship offer from UK and other schools – The Interior Journal

North Laurel’s Reed Sheppard was the state’s leading scorer last year as a sophomore with 30 points per game and created a statewide buzz among British fans with his game. The junior knew fans from across the state hoped he would get a scholarship offer from Kentucky and he finally did last week after John Calipari and his entire staff saw him play in Birmingham.

“I try not to pay too much attention to it. But it’s all over social media,” Reed Sheppard said. “Even though I try not to see it, I see some. I see some saying Kentucky has to offer and when is Kentucky going to offer. I’m trying not to think about what they’re saying. everyone and just enjoying what’s going on.

“But it’s kind of cool to know that everyone wants me to get an offer. It’s definitely something to be grateful for.

Reed Sheppard now has 11 offers, including one he received from Indiana after the British offer arrived. He had previously noted that Louisville, Gonzaga, Virginia and Clemson were also recruiting him heavily.

“Each offer is special and unique. I am grateful for these opportunities and all the offers I have,” he said. “But this one (Kentucky) is extremely special to me. This one means a lot. Growing up in Kentucky, everyone’s childhood dream is to play at the University of Kentucky. My mom and dad played it. It’s really cool to have this opportunity and I’m grateful for it.
